We’re loving the sunshine here in the UK, and that gets us thinking about our summer 2018 holidays. Whether you’re planning to book soon or wait for those last-minute cheap deals, you may want some inspiration. Here is part one of our top 10 travel destinations for summer 2018.
Summer 2018: #10 to #8
We kick things off with Cape Town in South Africa. This vibrant city, home to stunning beaches and the iconic mountains, is the stuff of modern legend. Its up-and-coming art and design scene also has support from the new Museum of Contemporary African Art, opening this year. Situated on the V&A Waterfront and seen as South Africa’s Tate Modern, the museum also houses brand new luxury hotel The Silo. There’s so much to see and do (and taste!) in the surrounding area that you’ll never find yourself bored.
If summer 2018 sees you looking for cooler climes, it’s all happening in Helsinki, Finland. Having celebrated 100 years of independence this year, there were plenty of parties going on in the country’s capital. A major new landmark, the Central Library, was the country’s gift to mark the occasion. And let’s not forget the sauna culture, which is a huge part of daily life in Helsinki. The Löyly sauna is open to the public, so why not immerse yourself—no pun intended—in all aspects of Finnish life next summer?
Some destinations remain consistently popular for a reason. For decades now, Spain has been a main-stay for many holidaymakers. Those who love soaking up history and culture know there is nowhere better in Spain than Malaga. It’s the birthplace of Picasso, home to the Centro de Arte Contemporaneo and the Carmen Thyssen, and currently hosting a five-year pop-up of the Centre Pompidou from Paris. This fantastic city has so much more to offer than an all-inclusive beach package, so why not choose Malaga for your summer 2018 holiday?
Summer 2018: #7 to #6
The fourth largest lake in Switzerland, Lake Lucerne, offers breathtaking views and varied attractions. The mythical ‘dragon den’ of Mount Pilatus, the Alpine cheese- and butter-sampling Buiräbähnli Safari, and Gotthard Base Tunnel (the world’s longest train tunnel at 36 miles) are all on offer to make your trip unforgettable.
The total lunar eclipse is coming in July next year, and it’s going to make summer 2018 unforgettable! But where is the best place to see it? None other than Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Next year’s eclipse will have a path of totality spanning many countries in the northern hemisphere! Jackson Hole offers a gorgeous country backdrop with minimal light pollution, meaning that the view should be nothing short of spectacular. And when you’re done, grab a souvenir at Made, and make sure to sample Persephone’s pastry!
